Church hosts community back-to-school wellness fair

WILMINGTON — Time to sharpen your crayons and pencils! Community partners are coming together at a local church to host a fair for families preparing for a new school year.

A free Back-to-School Wellness Fair will be hosted at Holy Cross Episcopal Church of Myrtle Grove on Saturday, Aug. 2, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 5820 Myrtle Grove Road

There will be free immunizations for children under 18 who are uninsured, underinsured, or Medicaid eligible, as well as free vision screening by the Lions Club. Plus, family-friendly games and kite-flying will take place and healthy snacks will be served

There also will be school supply giveaways, a fire truck display from New Hanover County Fire and Rescue, water and bike safety resources provided by New Hanover County Health and Human Services, on-site Medicaid and WIC assistance, anti-bullying and school safety information provided by the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, raffle prizes and a grand prize giveaway.

The event is being hosted in collaboration with the New Hanover County Health & Human Services, Fire & Rescue, and Sheriff’s Office; Novant Community Health; the Lions Club; CFCC Nursing Students; and UNCW Exercise Science Student Club.
