SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — A foundation that started after the oldest retirement home in the nation closed is opening its 2025 applications for grant awards.

The Catherine Kennedy Home Foundation, established in 2000, will announce nonprofit awardees in April 2025. The organizations must serve the elderly population in New Hanover, Pender, and Brunswick counties.

To date, the foundation has doled out $3.5 million to various organizations that enrich the lives of seniors. Last year, the foundation gave 38 organizations grants totaling $228,300.

Applications are due by Feb. 28 and can be requested by emailing catherinekennedyhomefoundation@gmail.com. Individuals are not eligible.

Questions can be directed to Christine Divoky at 910-233-2013.
