WILMINGTON — As temperatures are anticipated to drop below 30 degrees the first official week of December, an area shelter is opening for those experiencing homelessness.

Anyone seeking warmth can find refuge at the Warming Shelter ILM, to open from Dec. 1 through 5 at Grace United Methodist Church, 401 Grace St. Guests check in at 5 p.m. and will exit at 9 a.m. the following morning (pets are not accommodated). Food, blankets and care items are provided.

Volunteers are needed to help set up, greet guests upon arrival, cook and serve dinner for up to 100 people, act as overnight hosts, help make coffee in the morning, and cook and serve breakfast to 100 people, clean and do laundry, or be on call. Those interested can sign up here.

Donations are also being accepted financially here or by ordering items from the shelter’s wishlist here.
