YWCA hosting Thanksgiving drive

WILMINGTON — A local nonprofit is asking the community to come together to help contribute to Thanksgiving Day meals for grandparents who are caring for grandchildren this holiday season.

The Thanksgiving drive for the Grandparent Support Network (GSN) takes place through Nov. 17. GSN is a peer support group for grandparents who care full-time care for their grandchildren.

Goods accepted for drop-off at the YWCA aquatics and childcare lobbies (2815 S. College Rd.) include:

  • Canned veggies, like green beans, corn, peas, sweet potatoes
  • Soup mix
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Marshmallows
  • Nuts
  • Canned pie filling
  • Stuffing
  • Pasta
  • Pasta sauce
  • Evaporated milk
  • Cookie mix
  • Biscuit, bread or cornbread mix
  • Oil (olive, canola, vegetable)
  • Oats
  • Bags of sugar/brown sugar
  • Salt, pepper, spices
  • Kids snakcs
  • Peanut butter and jelly
  • Canned meats
  • Coffee, tea, cocoa mixes
