CAROLINA BEACH — A celebration for a new inclusive park on Pleasure Island is scheduled to take place.

On April 10, 1 p.m., the Brandy Myers Memorial Playground, will have its grand opening at Carolina Beach Lake Park (400 Lake Park Blvd. S). The park is designed to be welcome children of various ages and abilities. There will be family-friendly activities for social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development through play.

Area leaders from the town, county and state, as well as donors will be on hand to cut the ribbon with the community.

North Carolina House Representative Charlie Miller and New Hanover County Commissioner LeAnn Pierce will be joined by donors Danny “Chocolate” Myers of NASCAR fame and his wife Caron. They donated $1 million to have the park built in honor of Caron’s daughter, Brandy, who passed away from Leukemia in 1987.

A North Carolina Land and Water Conservation Fund grant for $175,000 was also obtained.

“We are thankful to everyone involved in making this possible,” Mayor Lynn Barbee said in a press release.
