WILMINGTON — Last week, the Warming Shelter announced it would pop up for two days at Grace United Methodist Church on Grace Street but has since extended its operations to six days due to cold weather coming through.

The shelter opens when temperatures drop below 30 degrees. Anyone experiencing homelessness is welcome to come in on a first-come, first-serve basis; pets are not allowed. It will open on Jan. 16 at 5:30 p.m. and continue nightly through Jan. 22, as temps are expected to drop into the 20s overnight for multiple days throughout the week.

Organized by multiple United Methodist pastors and volunteers, anyone who wishes to help with the event next week can sign up here. The shelter needs people who can help with setting up the pop-up shelter, as well as checking in guests, serving dinner, hosting overnight, serving breakfast and more.

Supplies are also needed, including mini deodorant, cold medicine, razors, backpacks, combs, nail clippers, coffee and creamers, paper plates and bowls, and Lysol spray.

Monetary donations are also accepted, as the shelter costs $550 to operate for one night.
