More than 1K athletes to participate in Wilmington Historic Half Marathon

The first weekend in December will bring athletes to downtown Wilmington to participate in the 6th annual Wilmington Historic Half Marathon, 10K and 5K.

WILMINGTON — The first weekend in December will bring athletes to downtown Wilmington to participate in the 6th annual Wilmington Historic Half Marathon, 10K and 5K.

Around 1,150 will run a 2.5-mile course through historic downtown Wilmington on Saturday, Dec. 2, 7 a.m. The 5K will finish on the Riverwalk, while the half marathon will cross the Isabel Holmes Bridge, S. Thomas Rhodes Bridge, and the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge and go around Greenfield Lake before finishing on the Riverwalk.

New this year is a 10K as well, to split after the third bridge and finish on the Riverwalk. Runners can also run the 5K and Half Marathon back-to-back.

“I love that this historic race provides an opportunity to discover the beauty of our city,” Erica Svab, owner of Race Bash and race director for the Historic Half Marathon, stated in a press release.

The race headquarters and host hotel is the Lumina on Wrightsville Beach, a Holiday Inn Resort.

It’s $60 to $90 to register for the half marathon, 5K or 10K and $145 to do a two-race challenge. Prices increase Dec. 1.
