NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Throughout the month of September, a nonprofit is hosting informational sessions for senior homeowners.
Cape Fear Housing Coalition will hold a four-part series, sponsored by Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity, to address aging in place and home safely; Medicaid planning, estate recovery and protecting real property; importance of wills; property tax relief; and heirs property issues.
Events will take place every Thursday in September at 10 a.m. at various locations throughout the community. The series will culminate in a free wills clinic Oct. 11, where low-income seniors have the opportunity to work with attorneys and notaries to create wills.

“The Homeowner Education Series is our effort to connect community members to the resources they need to age in place safely and without additional legal or financial
burdens,” Housing Coalition education and advocacy chair Amy Davis said in a release. “The Wills Clinic will help homeowners ensure their wishes can be honored in the future in regards to their property, will preserve existing affordable housing in our
community, and protect our community against predatory practices that target
generational family homes.”
All events are free and open to the public, but registration is required as space is limited. Register here or call 910-762-4744, ext. 134.
