WILMINGTON — A local company is teaming up with 7 Mile Post to raise donations for a nonprofit.
Two Men and a Truck is hosting Movers for Moms on April 22 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 7219 Market St. Its goal is to collect more than 1,000 items in Wilmington to reach a larger nationwide goal.
The company is looking to collect items for women in need of gift cards, phone chargers, shampoos and conditioners, full-size bar body soap, non-perishable food, diapers, new twin sheets, towels, washcloths, toilet paper, toiletries, hairbrushes and combs, slippers, pajamas, bras, leggings, and soft blankets.
Donations will be given to Domestic Violence Shelter and Services Inc. prior to Mother’s Day May 14.
Saturday’s event also includes live music, door prizes, a silent and live auction.
Last year, the event collected more than 266,000 items for donation to hundreds of shelters across the country nationally. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence reports on average nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the U.S. Nearly one in four women are victims of some sort of abuse, fleeing their homes with nothing.
This year, Two Men and A Truck are looking to exceed that with more than 270,000 items.
