WILMINGTON — At nine and a half years young, Taupie has endured more than her fair share of heartache.
Originally adopted as a kitten from New Hanover Humane Society (NHHS), Taupie lost her beloved owner after she passed away. With no one to care for her, Taupie was returned to the shelter, and has yet to attract the attention of a shelter guest.
“Taupie has been grieving her owner and the loss of her home”, Lisa Wolak, an animal care specialist at NHHS, explained. “She is good with all the other cats, especially Manchas, our big 20-pound girl. When they cuddle, all you see are two big lumps of fur.”
Raised in an environment that did not have dogs or young children, Taupie enjoys attention and is looking for a lap to call her own. Although no shelter visitor has yet shown an interest in Taupie, Wolak remains hopeful that someone with a calm living environment may consider adopting.
“A quiet home, maybe with one other nice kitty,” would be ideal, Wolak said.
“An older person, a single person, a couple, someplace that has sunny windows for her to realize that life can be good again,” Wolak added.
Still struggling to overcome her sadness, Taupie can most often be found curled up in a ball in her kitty bed, at the shelter.
“She just needs someone to love her on a full-time basis,” said Wolak.
Prospective adopters may meet Taupie at the NHHS facility, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday to Friday. The shelter is located at 2405 N. 23rd St. in Wilmington; interested potential adopters can reach the shelter at 910-763-6692.
