WILMINGTON — At almost 100 pounds, Luna is the largest — and some would say most lovable — resident at the New Hanover Humane Society (NHHS).

Relinquished by her family after they could no longer continue to care for her, Luna’s friendly personality and loyal demeanor have endeared her to many of the shelter’s volunteers.
“She seems perfectly friendly and sweet all the way around,” volunteer Alexis Ferrell said. “I think she would make a really good family dog. She’s smart, sweet and loves to play.”
Only three and a half years young, Luna has an outgoing personality and enjoys quality time with her caregivers.
“She’s very lovable,” Ferrell said. “Her perfect person would be active and have time to spend with her. I think everyone would love her as much as she loves them.”

Unlike many other four-legged friends, Luna is typically quiet unless she has something to say.
“She hasn’t barked at the other dogs,” Ferrell observed. “We haven’t seen her have any problems.”
As an animal care specialist at NHHS, Lisa Wolak makes a special effort to get to know all of the shelter’s furry residents.
“Luna would be good with children that are walking age,” Wolak said. “Anyone who wants to give her the love and exercise that she needs could be great.”

For an adoption fee of $80, Luna will be spayed and up to date on her shots. She will have been wormed, treated for fleas, and will even come with her very own crate.
Prospective adopters can meet her in person at NHHS, located at 2405 N. 23rd St. in Wilmington. The shelter can also be reached by phone, at 910-763-6692.
