UNC-Wilmington basketball continues streak in front of sellout at Trask Coliseum

WILMINGTON- The UNC-Wilmington Men’s Basketball team continued to roll on Saturday afternoon as the Seahawks grabbed an 87-74 victory in a regular season sweep against Drexel in front of a sellout crowd of over 5,300 fans inside Trask Coliseum.

UNCW extended its winning streak to seven straight, unbeaten at 8-0 in league play and 18-2 overall. The Seahawks have won 16 of its last 17 to remain atop the division.

With 24 rebounds, sophomore forward Devontae Cacok set a new single game school record and CAA conference game record. He was one of five players to finish in double figures, adding 12 points to tally his sixth double-double this season.

Senior forward Chris Flemmings led the way, shooting 7-of-15 from the field to finish with a game-high 17 points. Denzel Ingram had an impressive game running the point, with 13 points, seven assists and zero turnovers. UNCW shot 44 percent from the field as a team.

The Seahawks, who tied the 1997-98 NIT team for the most home victories in a season, continued their domination in the CAA over the last two years. UNCW has now won 24 of its last 26 games against conference foes dating back to Jan. 9, 2016.

The triumph put the Seahawks, who finished 25-8 one year ago, within reach of their second straight 20-win season and the fourth in the school’s history.

After taking a 43-40 lead at the break, the Seahawks used a 12-0 run midway through the second half to break away from the Dragons before padding their lead down the stretch.

UNCW (8-0, 16-2) begins a two-game road swing through the state of Virginia beginning with a trip to James Madison in Harrisonburg on Thursday, Jan. 26, before facing William & Mary on Saturday, Jan. 28.
