LOS ANGELES, California — With Major League Baseball’s winter meetings in the books, fans begin to turn their attention to 2017 spring training. Former University of North Carolina-Wilmington right-handed pitcher Chris Hatcher will once again be suited in Dodger blue when pitchers and catchers report in mid-February.
The Dodgers reached a one year deal with Hatcher in early December, avoiding arbitration with the veteran free agent. Hatcher and the Dodgers agreed on a one-year, $1.065 million in January 2016.
He pitched in 37 games for last season, with a 5–4 record and 5.53 ERA in 40.2 innings.
On July 20, he was placed on the disabled list with an oblique strain. Manager Dave Roberts later revealed Hatcher’s injury was a grade three strain, which sidelined the former UNCW standout for the remainder of the season.
Hatcher’s new one-year deal is $1.25 million to remain in Los Angeles. Hatcher was a fifth-round selection of the Miami Marlins in the 2006 MLB draft out of UNCW. He was traded to the Dodgers in December 2014.
Pitchers and catchers report to spring training in mid-February. Los Angeles works out at its facility in Glendale, Arizona as part of the Cactus League.
