HS Basketball Scoreboard: South Brunswick boys, North Brunswick girls off to 3-0 starts; Coastal Christian boys edge West Brunswick

Coastal Christian 50   West Brunswick 48  

With the game tied and under four minutes to play in the fourth quarter, senior guard Tommy Murphy propelled Coastal Christian on a 5-0 spurt as the Centurions held off West Brunswick 50-48 in Monkey Junction.

West Brunswick trailed by as many as 10 early in the final frame before a 7-0 run put the Trojans to within striking distance before the late push by Coastal Christian. Michael Parker paced the Centurions with 15 points, while Kamron Greene had 12 points and six assists.

Coastal Christian is now 5-2 on the season with impressive non-conference wins over West Brunswick and North Brunswick.

South Brunswick 46   West Bladen 45

Brandon Gonzales came up clutch for South Brunswick on Tuesday night with the game-winner from beyond the arc as the Cougars moved to 3-0 overall following a 46-45 triumph at West Bladen.

North Brunswick 76   Topsail 67

Topsail let a late lead slip away in regulation as Ian Hinson knocked down a three-point bucket as time expired for North Brunswick to send the game into overtime. The Scorpions out-dueled Topsail in Leland to grab the 76-67 victory.

Johnny Tartaglione and Owen Willis had 18 points apiece to lead the Pirates, but Topsail struggled from the free throw in the setback.

South View 62    Laney 49

Girls basketball

 West Brunswick 39    Coastal Christian 28

Logan Locklear hit three shots from long range and finished with 13 points to lead West Brunswick in a 39-28 result against Coastal Christian.

Sam Stanko paced Coastal Christian with 12 points as the Centurions trailed 16-14 at halftime.

 South View 22    Laney 16

Laney had a tough time putting the biscuit in the basket on Tuesday night with leading scorer Jenson Edwards sidelined because of an apparent shoulder injury. The Bucs fell to South View, 22-16, on the road.

North Brunswick 56    Topsail 27

The North Brunswick girls basketball team improved to 3-0 on the young season following a 56-27 victory at home against Topsail. Senior guard Taylor Perkins scored 15 of her game-high 19 points after the break for the Scorpions. Jada Bellamy chipped added 15 points in the win.
