The Hoggard Vikings continue to play its best football when it matters most as the boys from Shipyard Boulevard rode another strong offensive performance and five touchdowns by senior running back Tony Allen on Friday night in a 65-41 victory against J.H. Rose in Greenville.

With the win, Hoggard has now won six straight to improve to 8-5 overall. The road won’t get much easier moving into the third round of the 4A state playoffs, but the Vikings have impressed over the last few weeks thanks to the play of junior quarterback Josh Jones and his offensive unit.

Allen’s counterpart in the backfield, Rashod Wallace, got things going in the right direction early with a 7-yard touchdown to put Hoggard on the board just two minutes in.

The Vikings’ defense and special teams also helped set the tone with a couple of big stops, including a blocked punt in the end zone for a safety to give Hoggard a 9-0 advantage just five minutes into the contest.

Allen capped the next possession with a 4-yard touchdown to make it 16-0 Vikings, but a high powered J.H. Rose offense quickly closed the gap to pull within two at the end of the opening period.

Like last week in the result at Durham-Hillside, each time the opponents were able to get some momentum on their side, the Hoggard offense responded.  With the three-point edge, Allen punched in his second short yardage score to keep it a two possession game, 23-13, with about 11 minutes to play in the first half.

With 3.6 seconds left in the frame, a 25-yard touchdown pass from Jones to Collin Hairr made it 30-20 in favor of the Vikings.

Hoggard received the opening kick to start the third quarter and marched right down field to gain enough separation for the big road win.  Allen had a 3-yard score with 10 minutes to go in the period, while Jones and Hairr connected on a deep play on the next possession to set up a one-yard touchdown from Allen.

With the Vikings well out in front, junior slot back Tre Houser got into the mix.

Senior defensive back Keon Bradley also recorded an interception late for the Vikings to send Hoggard into the third-round of the 4A playoffs.

As the six-seed in the 4A East Region, Hoggard will take its battled tested football team to Laurinburg on Friday, Dec. 2 for a date with top-seeded Scotland County.  The Scots defeated Southeast Raleigh 52-21 in the second round.
