CHICAGO, Illinois — A pair of chip shot field goals by Wilmington native Connor Barth put the Chicago Bears on the board as Coach John Fox’s squad responded with its most impressive performance of the 2016 season on Monday in a stunning 20-10 victory of the NFC-North leading Minnesota Vikings at Soldier Field.
The Bears were able to move the ball in each of their two scoring possessions early, with Barth connecting on attempts from 30 yards and 28 yards, to give Chicago a 6-0 advantage in the second quarter.
The defense recorded five sacks, holding Minnesota to just 2-of-13 on third-down opportunities. The Bears forced four straight three-and-outs in the first half in building a 13-0 lead at the break.
Barth is now 11-of-14 on field goals this season, including a perfect 4-of-4 on attempts between 20-29 yards. He’s 6-of-7 between 30-39 yards, 1-for-2 from 40-49 yards and 0-1 from 50-plus. Barth is also a perfect 14-of-14 on point after attempts from 35 yards out.
With the victory, the Bears improved to 2-6 heading into their bye week. They’ll return to action Nov. 13 against the Buccaneers (3-4) in Tampa before visiting the Giants (4-3) Nov. 20 and hosting the Titans (4-4) Nov. 27 and 49ers (1-6) Dec. 4 at Soldier Field.
