The Hoggard football team righted the ship on Friday night as the Vikings rolled to a 50-13 victory against South Brunswick.

On offense, Hoggard has been able to move the ball all season, but red zone scores eluded the Vikings through the non-conference schedule. However, things changed quickly in the division opener. A balanced offensive attack led by quarterback Josh Jones and running back Rashod Wallace helped Hoggard put points on the board early and often.

Wallace made his first trip to the end zone early in the first quarter and Jones hit Tre Houser on a touchdown strike with 4:43 to play in the opening frame to give the Vikings a 14-0 lead.

The Vikings moved to 1-0 in conference and 2-4 overall heading into a grudge match at home against crosstown rival New Hanover on Friday, Sept. 30.

South Brunswick responded to close the deficit to seven headed into the second period, but Wallace responded with a 34 yard scoring play and Tony Allen got into the mix on a 47 yard touchdown to make it, 22-7. A Hoggard safety late in the first half added two points to the cushion and Jones pushed in a four yard score for a 36-7 advantage at the break.

Austin Edwards and Bryant Sasser scored later in the ballgame to put the exclamation point on a much needed win for Hoggard. The Vikings moved to 1-0 in conference and 2-4 overall heading into a grudge match at home against crosstown rival New Hanover on Friday, Sept. 30.

South Brunswick (0-1, 1-5) travels to Laney next week.
