Week two football schedule
New Hanover (1-0) at Myrtle Beach (1-0)
Player to Watch: Troy McCaskill, junior, outside linebacker: McCaskill had seven total tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack in New Hanover’s 38-20 week one win against Hoke County.

The Wildcats’ defense forced three turnovers against a run heavy offense, but North Myrtle Beach presents a different challenge as the scouting report shows a strong air attack, which gives New Hanover a tough test on Friday night.
On the offensive side of the ball, New Hanover put up over 400 yards of total offense last week. Wiz Vaughn had four touchdowns, while Keegan Santos had a team-high nine carries. Westley Gaines also shined in the kicking game in his first varsity appearance. He went 5-for-5 in extra point attempts and converted a 33-yard field goal.
Hoggard (0-1) vs. Seventy-First (1-0)
Player to Watch: Labib Ismail, senior, offensive lineman: Ismail anchors the offensive front at the guard position and helped guide the Vikings push for 252 yards rushing in the season opener.
In week two, the Hoggard senior is looking to play a clean game as a unit on the offensive line, aiding classmates Tony Allen and Rashod Wallace in the backfield.
Ashley (0-0) vs. Swansboro (1-0)
Player to Watch: Corey Whaley, senior, wide receiver: Whaley is a first-year player for Coach Jeff Turner after moving to Wilmington following his junior season in Aberdeen, Maryland. He gives the Screaming Eagles’ offense athleticism at wide out and in the secondary on defense.
After their season opener was cancelled last week, Ashley looks to make the most of their first game in Monkey Junction.
Laney (0-1) at J.H. Rose (0-0)
Player to Watch: Sherod Sidbury, sophomore, quarterback: Laney is running a new offense this season and a lot of the teams success will rely on the ability of Sidbury to make the right reads at the line of scrimmage. The Bucs are looking to limit penalties on the offensive end, with a core on defense.
Laney’s defensive unit played a strong first half against Wallace-Rose Hill last week, but the Bulldogs’ time of possession after the break and ability to move the chains on third down played a pivotal role in the week one.
J.H. Rose brings back one the most high powered offenses across the state this season following an appearance in the 2015 4A State Championship Game. The Rampants will spread the ball to multiple players in multiple sets.
West Brunswick (1-0) at South Columbus (1-0)
Player to Watch: Bubba McCray, senior, running back: McCray is going to get his number called early and often on the road for West Brunswick after posting 267 yards on 24 carries and three touchdowns in the Trojans season opening victory.
North Brunswick (1-0) at Socastee (0-1)
Player to Watch: Jayhlen Washington, senior, running back: Washington rushed for 80 yards, and one touchdown, with 10 tackles for North Brunswick last week. The Scorpions pulled out a 21-20 lightning delayed victory against Whiteville.
South Brunswick (1-0) at Southeast Raleigh (0-1)
Player to Watch: Josh Carter, junior, running back: Carter rushed for over 200 yards in South Brunswick’s week one win, a 40-22 victory over East Columbus.
The Cougars are looking to start 2-0 for the first time since 2011 when they travel to the Triangle this Friday night for a date with Southeast Raleigh.
Topsail (0-1) at Pender (0-0)
Player to Watch: Jarrett Radley, senior, lineman: Radley plays on both sides of the ball for Topsail. The Pirates are looking to bounce back after letting a fourth quarter lead slip away in week one.
