Holly Springs 24 Hoggard 20
Holly Springs’ ground-and-pound game churned nearly 400 yards rushing on Friday to give the Golden Hawks a 24-20 result against visiting Hoggard.
The two teams traded blows throughout much of the night as the seesaw battle had Hoggard in front 20-18 at the eight minute mark of the fourth quarter when Holly Springs punched it in from the one-yard line on fourth down for the game winning score.
Tony Allen used a short yardage run on the Vikings first possession of the game to put Hoggard in front 7-0 with 8:16 left in the first quarter. A one-point lead after the opening frame turned into a 12-7 deficit after a 19 yard touchdown run by Holly Springs midway through the second period.
Josh Jones answered for Hoggard with a 25 yard touchdown pass to Chet Radack to put the Vikings in front 13-12 at the break.
The Golden Hawks used a 90-yard run to regain the advantage early in the third quarter, but Rashod Wallace responded with a 20-yard score on the ground as Hoggard carried a 20-18 lead into the final frame.
Hoggard (0-1) plays three of five non-conference games on the road this season. The Vikings will return to Shipyard Boulevard for their home opener against Seventy-First on Friday, Aug. 26.

Josh Carter had his number called 20 times on the ground Friday night, rushing for over 200 yards and three touchdowns to lead South Brunswick in a 40-22 win against West Columbus.
West Brunswick 19 Socastee 6 (S.C.) postponed until 6p.m. Saturday
West Brunswick will have a 19-6 cushion against Socastee when play resumes at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Lightning postponed the Trojans’ home opener with 3:09 remaining in the first half.
Maliek King and Tariq Thomas each have a short yard touchdown, while Bubba McCray sprinted 60 yards to give West Brunswick a 7-6 lead with 4:49 to play in the first quarter.

Kirby Smith had a team-high 12 kills as Hoggard grabbed a 3-1 win in the Vikings season opener during the Wildcat Invitational at East Chapel Hill High School. Madie Schider was strong on the defensive end. The senior libero finished with 15 digs.
The Vikings improved to 1-0 heading into a pair of matches against Chapel Hill and Carboro on Saturday.

Hunter Mintz made four saves and Douglas McKinney recorded a hat trick for the second straight game to guide Coastal Christian in a 7-1 result against Caldwell Academy on Friday night. Matt Ward, Tommy Murphy and Walker Henderson also found the back of the net.
Cape Fear Academy 5 St. David’s School 2
Holt Robison and Zach Tomosunas combined for five goals to lead Cape Fear Academy as the Hurricanes cruised to a 5-2 victory over St. David’s School.
