Buctown training camp: Laney football holds its first full-padded practice of 2016 (Photos)

WILMINGTON – The Laney football program got a head start to the first official week of practice early Monday as the Bucs held the annual Midnight Madness event at Holliday Stadium. Flash forward to Wednesday and the team hit the practice field for their first full padded workout.

Coach Aashad Yeoman is heading into his third season at the helm and the Laney alum was impressed with his team’s offseason, with several key contributors back for their senior year.

Running back Imeek Watkins tops the list when it comes to offensive experience. As a four-year varsity player, Watkins rushed for nearly 850 yards last season. The Bucs averaged 187 rushing yards per game. Trevon Greene and sophomore Sherod Sidbury have been splitting reps at quarterback, while the Bucs’ defense brings back a veteran latent group. Travone Mcghee and Ryan Daborowski are expected to cause havoc on the defense line, with Cayman Czesak returning at linebacker.

In 2015, Laney went 5-7 overall and 4-2 inside the Mideastern Conference. Yeoman is excited about the work put in through the first few days of practice and looking forward to the upcoming scrimmages and BB&T Jamboree on Friday, Aug. 12.
