With the start of the college baseball summer season right around the corner, the Wilmington Sharks are still looking for host families to house players from the team. The Sharks are a summer college team that plays in the Coastal Plain League, a wood-bat league that recruits players from colleges across the U.S.

“Please consider opening your home to a college baseball player looking for a home away from home during the summer months,” said Pat Hutchins, Wilmington Sharks General Manager. “All host families receive free admission into all home games as well as a few extra ballpark bucks to use throughout the season on food, raffle tickets and merchandise.
While opening your home to a complete stranger might seem a little unusual, the opportunity host families provide far surpasses the cons as relationships gained during the time spent with each player goes beyond the ballfield, according to Hutchins.
“You really do not see them much. The schedule is hectic,” Hutchins added. “They often will get home late from games and sleep in late because they are tired from the night before. They typically leave mid-afternoon for the next game and there aren’t too many days off. The Sharks provide dinner for the players on home games. Players are expected to abide by your house rules, but you must let them know what your expectations are.”
