James Madison took advantage of five unearned runs in the sixth inning to clinch a Colonial Athletic Association series against UNCW following an 11-7 win on Sunday.
The Dukes (20-28, 10-11 CAA) stayed in the hunt for a CAA tournament berth, while the Seahawks fell to 35-13 overall and 14-5 in the league.
Austin Magestro was saddled with the loss, allowing five earned runs in the sixth inning.
After tying the game in the top of the sixth, UNCW surrendered four unearned runs in the bottom half. Magestro walked the bases loaded and fought back to get the second out on a strikeout, but a fielding error put James Madison in front and the Dukes tacked on four more runs for an 11-6 lead.
Steven Linkous, Brian Mims and Zack Canada had two hits apiece. Linkous tripled in the second inning to become UNCW’s all-time leader with 12. Canada also picked up a pair of runs batted in.
UNCW concludes its non-conference schedule with a 6 p.m. start at nationally ranked Coastal Carolina on May 17.
