Cape Fear Community College announces Bridge to Bridge run, open soccer tryouts

Sea Devils Athletics and the Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) Foundation are partnering with Tops Athletics to bring the community the 5th Annual Bridge to Bridge four-mile run and one-mile walk at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 10.

Participants will travel from the Isabel Holmes Bridge to the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge across downtown Wilmington.

“This race has helped numerous students over the past five years fulfil their dream of higher education,” said Ryan Mantlo, CFCC Athletic Director. “Tops Athletics has embedded itself in our culture in the athletic department and we could not thank them enough for being our title sponsor for the event.”

The four-mile early bird registration at $25. The one-mile walk is $20, with registration on the day of the event five dollars more for each race.

Awards will be presented in several categories.

Sea Devils to hold women’s soccer tryout for next season

Coach Ryan Deppa invites CFCC students and 2016 high school seniors interested in women’s soccer to an open tryout from 12:30-2 p.m. Saturday, May 21 at the North Campus Soccer Field.

Potential student-athlete soccer players must be full-time students in the fall of 2016 to participate on the soccer team.  All players must have soccer experience to attend and provide verification of a sports physical in the last 13 months.

Prospective players who are high school seniors and still participating in state playoff games on May 16 should keep Coach Deppa posted, as tryouts would occur later for those players.

The Sea Devils went 10-2 in Region 10 play last season, with an 11-7 overall record after falling two wins short of the national tournament.
