Postseason play gets underway this week among North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) member schools in boys’ tennis and lacrosse. Listed below are first-round matchups for teams within Brunswick and New Hanover counties.
Coming off back-to-back Mideastern Conference Championships, New Hanover will take its 16-0 overall record into the 4A dual team tennis tournament with a home match against East Chapel Hill (14-3).
Hoggard (12-4) also received a wild card bit to the bracket, but hits the road for a date with Cardinal Gibbons (19-5).
Junior Eddie Janosko will also represent the Vikings later this week at the 4A East Regional individual tournament, alongside Hoggard tandem Miles Hirchak and Holland Baynard. Laney’s Zack Taffer will compete in singles play at regionals, while New Hanover will send five players to the event to be held at Althea Gibson Tennis Complex.
Lucas McLatchy and Wesley Gaines will join Marshal Waren and Taylor Gaines in the doubles tournament, with Patrick Senior competing in the singles competition.

Lacrosse
All four Wilmington high schools qualified for the boys’ 4A lacrosse tournament. Hoggard has a top seed and first-round bye in the bracket after finishing 12-0 in conference and 15-2 overall.

The Vikings are riding an 11-match winning streak after advancing to the third round of the playoffs last season.
The Hoggard girls also went unbeaten in league play this spring and take a 16-1 mark into the state playoffs. Junior Kendal Goldblum and senior Lindsey Yelton have combined for over 110 goals this season, while Goldblum has a team-high 35 assists.
