Diamond Hawks pound three homers in win over Campbell

Robbie Thorburn had four hits and Gavin Stupienski drove in four runs as UNCW overcame an early deficit for a 14-7 win over visiting Campbell at Brooks Field on Tuesday.

Winners of their last nine outings, the Seahawks improved to 24-9 overall and 19-2 on their home field. The Camels, meanwhile, fell to 20-18 on the season and dropped both games of the home-and-home series with UNCW.

Thorburn, who also homered for the second time this season, pushed his average to .349 with the four-hit outing. Daniel Stack added three hits and scored three runs, while Steven Linous crossed the plate four times to lead the Seahawks.

Campbell built a 4-3 lead after four innings before UNCW tied the entering the sixth. With two outs and a runner on second, Linkous lifted a fly ball to shallow left where it was dropped and Stack scored from second the go-ahead run for the 5-4 advantage. The Seahawks added a run on a wild pitch and Stupienski singled home the third and final run of the inning for a 7-4 cushion.

Brian Mims hit his seventh homer of the season with one on and nobody out in the first. Nick Feight launched his 12th round tripper in the seventh and Thorburn went yard in the eighth. 

Whitman Barnes (2-1) picked up the win in relief for UNCW, who used six relievers out the bullpen in the win.

The Seahawks return to conference play with a 6 p.m. start on Friday against visiting Towson.
