Cory Gantz went a career-long seven strong innings and Steven Linkous collected four hits as UNCW knocked off William & Mary to complete a Colonial Athletic Association series sweep following a 6-1 victory on Sunday in Williamsburg, Virginia.
The Seahawks improved to 19-9 overall and 5-2 in the league, while the Tribe fell below .500 at 15-16 on the season and 4-4 in the conference.
Gantz (2-0) picked up the win, allowing one run on seven hits and a walk. The right-hander tied his career-high with four strikeouts and induced a pair of double play balls.
Linkous also scored two runs atop the UNCW order, while Brian Mims, Nick Feight and Kenard McDowell added two hits apiece. Gavin Stupienski added three runs batted in and Feight knocked in two to go along with his 10th home run of the season.
Feight connected on the round-tripper with a solo shot to lead off the third inning as the Seahawks grabbed a 3-0 lead after scoring single runs in the first three frames. Stupienski put UNCW on the board with a sacrifice fly and McDowell singled in Robbie Thorburn with two outs.
The Seahawks sit one game back in the CAA standings and begin a six-game stretch against non-conference teams in a ball game against East Carolina at 6p.m. on Tuesday, April 12.
