Junior Luke Winslow took advantage of a spot start in the outfield and came up huge with a four-hit, 2 RBI performance in the consolation game of the Ashley Spring Break Tournament sponsored by Coastal Athletics.
Behind a solid pitching performance by Price King and Kevin Mintz, the Screaming Eagles defeated the Laney Buccaneers 10-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
The contest was scoreless heading into the bottom of the fourth, when Ashley struck for the only run they needed. Reggie Regan led off with a bloop single to right and later scored on Winslow’s second hit, an RBI double down the left-field line.
The Eagles added four more runs in the fifth, highlighted by a triple to right off the bat of shortstop Christian Tafoya along with Winslow’s third hit of the game.
Price King, who earned the win, and Kevin Mintz, who picked up the save, combined for 11 strikeouts, while limiting the Bucs to just two hits. The Ashley pitching staff allowed two runs in three games during the tournament.
Ashley improved their record to 4-6 overall, and return to conference play on Tuesday at home against Laney.
