This year’s event featured multiple races, including the 26.2 mile trek, which got underway at 6:40 a.m. at Wrightsville Beach, and concluded inside Mayfaire Town Center.

Gavin Finley, 35, of Durham, took first, completing the course in just over two and a half hours (02:31:00) for a one-mile pace of five minutes and 46 seconds. Jamey Yon, 50, placed second at 02:34:31, while Wilmingtonians Timothy Nichols, 34, and Hugh Crews, 34, took third and fourth, respectively.

The top female finisher hailed from the Port City as 41-year old Christa Iammarino completed the run in 02:48:50. She joined three other women, including Alice Rogers, 37; Brittany Perkins, 26; and Erin Hogston, 35, to close the marathon in under three hours. That’s a running pace of under seven minutes per mile.

Running with the help of guide runners, Tyler Millard, 31, from Oak Ridge, North Carolina, crossed the finish line at 4:35:37. Millard has now run in four marathons after losing his sight due to retinitis pigmentosa.

Also included in this year’s race day were the half-marathon and marathon team relays. More than 1,300 people registered and completed the half-marathon. Tibor Veigh, 31, of Raleigh was first in the 13.1-mile race, completing the course in 01:11:16.
