Terence Connelly had three hits and drove in two runs as UNCW earned an 8-4 win over visiting UNC-Greensboro at Brooks Field on Wednesday.
The Seahawks raised their record to 9-2, while the Spartans dropped to 8-4 with their second consecutive loss.
Reliever Austin Magestro (2-0) picked up his second win out of the bullpen this season after striking out four in two innings of relief. UNCG starter Keaton Haack (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing three runs – two earned – on three hits and three walks.
Connelly, making his first start of the season at first base, singled in his first two at bats and added a two-run single in the fourth inning to give UNCW a 6-0 lead. Robbie Thorburn two hits, one run and a RB, while Brian Mims scored three runs.
UNCW broke the game open with a three-run fourth inning as Connelly knocked in the first two runs with a two-out single with the bases loaded and Mims came across one batter later on a wild pitch.
