A community of craftsmen converges on the historic Brooklyn Arts Center this weekend.
The center’s sixth annual Art for All runs from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. This cutting-edge show features dozens of regional artisans showcasing and selling their original wares–paintings, illustrations, sculpture, photography, watercolors, glass, metal and woodwork, among them.
The best part: it’s affordable, with all pieces priced between $25 and $250. The price tags have consistently brought in more than a thousand savvy shoppers to check out–and take home–a host of unique creations.
Admission to the event is $5, which is good for entry both days and includes a raffle ticket. Kids 12 and under get in free.
As in years past, a host of Wilmington’s finest food trucks will be on hand to serve up good eats, and the Brooklyn Arts Center cash bar will provide the libations. A coffee shop will be set up in the courtyard to keep you caffeinated.
After you’ve indulged your eyes with stunning artwork, engage your ears with a host of live music happening throughout the next few days. And there’s also plenty of drama to be had, from a modern translation of a Greek tragedy to a cheeky faux morning TV show.

Music
Flytrap Brewing presents a free live show from local singer/songwriter David Dixon at 8 p.m. tonight (Thursday). 2 Bros. Coastal Cuisine will be onsite serving sandwiches and Poutine from 7 to 10. Folk act the Will Daube Duo performs at 8 p.m. Friday, with Pepe’s Taco Truck serving up Mexican street food from 7 to 11. On Saturday, Georgia folk guitarist Adam Harris Thomson goes on at 8, and T’Geaux Boys Food Truck will be on hand with New Orleans fare from 7 to 9.
The Juggling Gypsy hosts “Fire and Drums” at 8 p.m. each Thursday night. The event is a meet-up of fire dancers and area drummers, with deejays spinning tunes beginning at 10 p.m. Participants are welcome to bring their percussion instruments and fire and juggling toys. A Tarot card reader will be on hand between 6 and 10 p.m. Admission is free.
Singer/songwriter Jim Ashley performs an acoustic set at A Tasting Room on Friday. The free show runs from 6 to 9 p.m. On Saturday, Ashley will play a free show at Fermental in Ogden. Vittles Food Truck will be onsite.
Wilmington musicians Adam Forsythe and Sean Gould play acoustic folk from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Waterline Brewing. Admission is free.
Morning Glory Coffee House hosts Jazz and Java each Friday night from 7 to 9 p.m. The ongoing event features rotating line-ups of live jazz, fusion, blues and swing artists. The special guest this Friday is pianist Cameron Tinklenberg. Admission is free.
Alternative folk musician Lizzy Ross performs original music from her upcoming third album at 8 p.m. Friday at WalkerWorld Organic Artist Retreat in Castle Hayne. Admission is a $10 suggested donation. Parking is very limited; carpooling, cab or Uber rides are strongly encouraged.
Funk You brings its eclectic funk fusion to The Calico Room this weekend. The show gets underway at 8 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, and tickets are $8.
Theater/Comedy
Budding stand-ups can test their chops during Dead Crow Comedy Room’s weekly open mic night each Thursday. Sign-ups begin at 7 p.m., with comics taking the stage at 8. There is no cover charge.
UNC-Wilmington’s Theater Department presents “The Burial At Thebes,” Irish Nobel laureate Seamus Heaney’s verse translation of Sophocles’ tragedy, “Antigone,” at 8 p.m. tonight through Saturday at the university’s Main Stage Theater. Tickets are $15 ($12 for UNCW employees and seniors and $6 for students).
Big Dawg Productions’ 2016 season opener, Neil Simon’s iconic comedy, “The Odd Couple,” continues at 8 p.m. tonight through Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday at Cape Fear Playhouse. Tickets are $15-$18.
“Top o’the Mornin’ to Ya!,” a mock Irish talk show with Hoda and Kathie Lee-esque characters Faith and Begorrah, returns with an election edition at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at TheatreNOW dinner theater. Tickets are $32 ($18 show only).
Matt Braunger brings his stand-up to Dead Crow Comedy Room this weekend. Braunger was a regular on “Mad TV” and had a recurring role on the NBC comedy, “Up All Night.” He will perform at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $19.
Super Saturday Fun Time Kids’ Variety Show continues this Saturday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at TheatreNOW. The ongoing series features Captain Plunkett, Dock the Dog and the Dock Street Kids as they unravel mysteries tied to Wilmington’s history and local attractions in Scooby Doo-style. A new “episode” happens each week. Tickets are $6 or $48 for a 10 episode subscription.
Film
TheatreNOW hosts a three-course dinner and screening of the critically acclaimed feature film, “Althea,” at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The film tells the story of trailblazing black tennis champion, Althea Gibson. Lenny Simpson, who trained alongside Gibson when she lived in Wilmington, will give an introduction and lead a question-and-answer session after the screening. Tickets for the dinner and movie are $50 and a portion of proceeds benefit One Love Tennis.
