New Hanover 55 Laney 44
Trailing by one headed into the fourth quarter, the New Hanover boys basketball team used a decisive push early in the final frame to grab a 55-44 victory over Laney at Brogden Hall on Friday.

Senior Acchaeus Fields led all scorers with 24 points, converting 11 of 13 from the field. The Wildcats struggled from long range, but shot a combined 57.2 percent as Shaq Hampton and Malique Jacobs each finished in double figures.
The seesaw battled had the Bucs in front 13-12 after the first quarter. Hunter Cook knocked down two treys in the game to lead Laney with 12 points.
Hampton scored 11 of his 13 points during the second period to give New Hanover a two-point advantage at the break. Jacobs finished with 11 points, while Hampton grabbed seven rebounds.
A pair of buckets by Chris Bennett and Marquan Miller helped get back in front 37-36 before the Wildcats went on a 9-2 spurt early in the fourth quarter to gain enough separation for the win. The Wildcats outscored Laney 14-7 during the final eight minutes of regulation as Freddie Taylor recorded five points during the push.
New Hanover remains unbeaten at 9-0 in league play and 17-4 overall. Laney dropped to 3-5 in the division and 9-11 on the year.

The Hoggard Vikings avenged an early season setback to West Brunswick following a 73-61 triumph in Shallotte on Friday.
Hoggard won its fourth straight to improve to 7-2 in conference and 14-7 overall. Meanwhile, the Trojans dropped to 6-3 in league play and 13-6 on the year.
With an eight-point advantage after the opening eight minutes of action, Hoggard stormed to a 35-20 lead at halftime. Xavier Johnson and A.J. Frye scored 17 points apiece, while Robert Wilkerson filled the scoring column with 15 points.
The Trojans trailed by as many as 19 before closing to within eight after the third quarter, but Hoggard held on down the stretch to pick up the double-digit result. The Vikings went 27 of 30 from the free throw line.
Ashley 75 Topsail 48
The Screaming Eagles got back to the .500 mark in conference after a 75-48 result at home against Topsail on Friday.

Ryan Keller led all scorers with 20 points as four different players finished in double digits. Jordan Gagum went 6-for-6 from the free throw and knocked down one shot from beyond the arc to close with 11 points. Qadhafi Turner and Daitreon Daye chipped in with 10 apiece.
Ashley led the Pirates 16-8 after the first quarter and extended its cushion to 36-14 at the break. The Screaming Eagles hit 17 of 24 attempts at the charity stripe and knocked down six shots from long range.
Ashley moved to 4-4 in league play and 10-9 overall.
Coastal Christian 76 Parrott Academy 49
Brian Howell had 20 points and nine rebounds for Coastal Christian. The Centurions moved to 6-2 in conference and 13-8 overall.
