Wildcats defeat Wilmington Christian in volleyball; Coastal Christian soccer cruises

(25-21, 25-18, 14-25, 29-27)

After jumping out to a two sets to none lead, Wilmington Christian battled back before New Hanover defeated the Patriots 29-27 in the decisive fourth game to give the Wildcats a 3-1 win at Brogden Hall.

Junior Alyssa Gowdy led the attack with nine kills and eight aces from the service line, while Olivia Backston was steady in the defense with 29 digs. Sydney Eavey added 12 digs and Paris Backston contributed seven kills. Courtney Loughran set the offense with 17 assists.

New Hanover improved to 11-2 overall and return to conference play today against Ashley.

Coastal Christian 8     Fayetteville Christian 0

Douglas McKinney tallied five goals, while Matt Ward finished with one score and four assists as Coastal Christian cruised to an 8-0 win over Fayetteville Christian. The Centurions improved to 10-5-1 overall and get back on the field today against Harrells Christian.
