Cape Fear Academy 3      South Brunswick 2

Cape Fear Academy scored two unanswered goals in the second half to rally past South Brunswick 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Trailing 2-1 after Emilio Bonifacio found the net on a penalty kick just before the break, Holt Robison leveled the match in the 53rd minute and Zach Tomosunas put in the game-winner seven minutes later to grab the result.

Matt Bangart struck minutes after the opening kick to give the Hurricanes an early lead, but John Riddle tied the score 1-1 for South Brunswick to set up the exciting finish.

Cape Fear moved to 4-0-2 and host Ashley High School on Thursday, August 27.

The Bucs picked up their second victory in as many days following a 3-0 win at home against Dixon. Laney used an all-around effort to move to 3-0 on the year and finish a three-match week by hosting Coastal Christian in Buctown on Thursday.

New Hanover swept North Brunswick in three straight sets at Brogden Hall on Tuesday night to win their rematch against the Scorps as part of their non-conference home-at-home series.

“I think tonight we showed depth in our  lineup with a strong effort from the bench,” said New Hanover Coach Mark Hafer. “We continue to bring a positive chemistry to court in practice and its shown over the first two games.”

The Wildcats improved to 2-0 and return to the floor  at Dixon on Thursday, Aug. 27. at Dixon for their final tuneup outside of league play before visit Hoggard early next week. North Brunswick fell to 3-2 and get back into action at West Brunswick on Thursday.

South Brunswick 3   Cape Fear Academy 0

Sydney Fox had seven kills and Morgan Anderson served five aces in a 3-0 win for South Brunswick.
