Sophomore Jayhlen Washington leads the way, ranked first in long jump (22-feet, 10-inches), first in triple jump (44 feet, four inches) and fifth in the 55 meter hurdles. Washington and teammates Keandre Yoeman, Chris Graham and Jathan Deberry are ranked first in the 4×200 meter relay.

“They have worked very hard and been very dedicated,” Coach Garry Bishop said. “We knew with hard work they would put themselves in a position to at least have a chance to win another state title. They have great attitudes and have been a pleasure to coach.”

Yeoman enters the competition ranked fourth in the 55 meter hurdles, while Graham is tied for the fastest time in the 55 meter dash and is fifth in long jump at 21-feet, 1-inch.

The Scorpions will also participate in the 4×400 meter relay and are ranked third heading into Friday’s competition with Yeoman, Deberry, Latrell Hill and Chris Lancaster.

Hill has the third fastest time in the 500 meters (1:07.1) and Derrick Wheeler is the defending state champion in the shot put.

Deberry is ranked fourth in the high jump, and Jordon Howard is ranked eighth in the triple jump. North Brunswick will have three participants in the triple jump.

Pender High School’s Tanazsa Simpson and North Brunswick’s Alleigh Hines will compete in the girls shot put, while Shaquan Graham and Cameron Barnhill run the 55 meter dash.
