WILMINGTON-Prior to the big Mideastern Conference match Saturday night between the Hoggard and New Hanover girls soccer clubs, the two rival schools will come together for an all-day alumni event at Legion Stadium. All former soccer players from the schools are welcome to take part in the festivities, which begin at 3 p.m. Former coaches will be returning to coach the alumni teams.
Alumni participants will pay $20 to play. Price includes an alumni jersey to keep and dinner. All proceeds benefit the two soccer programs, as well as the Eric Willis Memorial Scholarship that is given each year at Hoggard. A daylong alumni event is set for Saturday prior to the New Hanover and Hoggard girls soccer match at Legion Stadium.
“Hope that it will be a great event for the alumni of both programs, as well as for the Wilmington soccer community in general. It should be a lot of fun for participants and spectators alike,” New Hanover Coach T.J. Rennie said.
Both clubs are getting into the thick of their conference schedule with Saturday’s match. New Hanover has been led all season by Nikki Tiller, while Ali Frankeny has found the back of the 13 times in nine games for Hoggard.
