A popular meat company has recalled 15,876 pounds of smoked sausages, with bone fragments potentially contaminating the products.
A wholly owned subsidiary of Tyson Foods, Hillshire Brands Company, noted the ready-to-eat meat and poultry items were produced June 14, 2023 and shipped to retail locations in California, Maryland, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall on Sept. 2 for:
- 14-oz. cryovac package containing one rope of “HILLSHIRE FARM SMOKED SAUSAGE MADE WITH PORK, TURKEY, BEEF”
It’s stamped “EST. 756A 20 19:00:00 through 21:59:59 and EST. 756A 21 19:00:00 through 21:59:59” with a use-by date of Nov. 11, 2023 on the front packaging.
Hillshire Farms received consumer complaints regarding bone fragments in the product and notified FSIS, according to a press release. FSIS also received one consumer complaint.
An oral injury associated with its consumption was also filed; there have been no additional reports of injury or illness from consumption of these products.
Consumers that may have the products in their homes should not consume them, toss them or return to place of purchase for a refund.
