SOUTHEASTERN NC — Have a love for belting out “Gunpower and Lead” by Miranda Lambert? Perhaps head-bobbing to the noodling sounds of String Cheese? Or maybe you’d rather tickle your musical fantasies by sitting in on a jam with a few Talking Heads members?
Wilmington has it all headed your way. Here’s the latest in concert news in the Port City.
Country star Miranda Lambert will bring her performing prowess to the Riverfront Park stage on Aug. 7; tickets will go on sale Friday, June 25, 10 a.m. Live Nation has not released prices.
Lambert has put out nine studio albums to date and sold over 7 million stateside, seven of which went platinum. The GRAMMY-winning artist released the “The Marfa Tapes” in March 2021 — recorded in Marfa, Texas, with collaborators Jon Randall and Jack Ingram.
Her Wildcard Tour is in support of the album and also will feature opening country acts Matt Stell and Elvie Shane.
String Cheese Incident
String Cheese Incident will be arriving in Wilmington for a two-night stint at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater on Aug. 17-18. Tickets will go on sale Friday, June 18, 10 a.m., and are priced $54.50 for one night or $105 for both ($65 day of show).
String Cheese blends bluegrass with electronic, reggae with psychedelia, Calypso with country folk and more. They’ve garnered fans over their almost 30-year run and released a dozen albums, including live recordings that capture the vibe of their shows. The band is made up of Bill Nershi (acoustic guitar, lap steel guitar, electric slide guitar), Michael Kang (acoustic/electric mandolin, electric guitar, violin), Michael Travis (drums, percussion) and Keith Moseley (bass), Kyle Hollingsworth (piano, organ, accordion), and Jason Hahn (auxiliary percussion).
Turkuaz with Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew
So you may not know who Turkuaz is but you should. First off, they are a funk band out of Brooklyn who tour incessantly, playing over 100 shows a year. They have released five albums and took the stage with Paul McCartney and Wings in in 2018.
Turkuaz also collaborated in the studio with one of their idols, Talking Heads founding member Jerry Harrison. A friendship and musical bond formed and now with the Heads session guitarist Adrian Belew, all are touring in support of the 40th anniversary of Talking Heads’ “Remain in Light.”
Oh, yeah: They’ll be at Greenfield Lake on July 22. Tickets are on sale Friday, June 18, 10 a.m.
