BRUNSWICK COUNTY — A theater company across the bridge will be hosting a performance to honor National Substance Abuse Prevention Month this October.
Auditions will be Sept. 6 and 8, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. nightly, for a new play “No Quota on Miracles.”
The script was penned by local resident Debbie Wood and will be directed by Dan Barth. According to the company, “it depicts family and friends struggling to cope with the loss” of a loved one.
It tells the story of a teenager who endures a sports injury, is prescribed painkillers and develops an addiction to them.
Eight cast members are needed, with the lead being 18 to 25 years in age, male or female, portrayed as “charming, self-deprecating and remorseful.” The mother, mid-to-late 40s, is witty and introspective, with great emotional range, while the father, also of the same age, is a proud businessman, stoic with emotional weaknesses.
The grandparents — in their 60s — are nurturing, yet tough, with the lead’s young sister, a 15-year-old cheerleader-type, is angry about the circumstances surrounding her family.
A dealer is also being cast, 20 years and up, who is described as “aloof” and “skittish.”
Auditions will consist of cold-readings, on a first-come, first-serve basis. They take place at Brunswick Little Theatre, 8068 River Road SE, in Southport, classroom 1, and Ryan Sewell Studio located behind the theatre.
The production is scheduled to run four nights, Wednesday through Saturday, 7:30 p.m.
