Podcast Nov. 23 – $30 million and counting, latest on NHRMC sale, Wrightsville Beach

We start this week with the North Waterfront Park and Live Nation venue, which is now $10 million over budget — with a total cost of over $30 million (and no ground broken yet).

How did costs get so high, and what does it mean for the park? And, while we’re on the subject, does Live Nation’s generous $2 million offer to help cover rising costs have anything to do with its bid to manage the Hugh Morton Amphitheater (a.k.a. Greenfield Lake Amphitheater) — because it’s very similar to a 2018 deal that was briefly floated by a city official.

Next up, the latest on the potential sale or new partnership for the New Hanover Regional Medical Center. A new non-profit has been created to block the sale of the hospital. We get into some of their allegations against NHRMC, the county, and the Partnership Advisory Group formed to help steer the process.

Last, we head to Wrightsville Beach, which hasn’t received much media coverage until recently. We get into the most recent stories — about the federal lawsuit against the town — and questions about how the town’s board of alderman deals with going into closed session, and why it’s important that they don’t state details of legal cases before doing so.
