LELAND — Sweet n Savory Cafe still plans on taking over the former Fat Tony’s Pub location in Leland. Except now, the Wilmington spot will finance its second location on its own.
Calling the short-lived Kickstarter campaign an “idealistic long shot,” Sweet n Savory Cafe’s CEO announced on Facebook the Waterford location will be financed through private debt.
“When we rolled out the concept of co-creating and sharing the profits of our new Leland location with the community, we understood that it was an idealistic long shot, but we consciously decided to take the leap of faith and to see what happened,” Rob Shapiro, Sweet n Savory Cafe’s owner, wrote on Facebook Thursday.
Shapiro added he was grateful to the community for its interest. The cafe’s Leland location could open before October, he wrote.
As of Thursday afternoon, the campaign raised $4,836 out of its $450,000 goal.
“The funding method of new projects has no impact on our foundational principles of Community, Authenticity and Love or in our belief of investing abundance back into the community. Much love and joy to all,” Shaprio’s post states.
