LELAND — A family-owned wine shop and tasting room is set to be the first business to open in Leland’s Ocean Gate Plaza.
Bridgewater Wines plans to open the first week of November and has plans to bring over 500 wines to Leland’s only dedicated wine shop; the store will also offer a craft beer, plus a tasting area to enjoy beverages along with small plates.

The store will be Susan and Doug Zucker’s first business venture together. Both wine enthusiasts, the Zuckers will join a small list of family-owned businesses in a mostly commercial area.
“We’ve had a lot of excitement through our Facebook page and social media and whatnot,” Susan Zucker said. “It’s just amazing the positive feedback.”
The couple’s neighbors in Ocean Gate Plaza, Dunkin’ Donuts and Hibachi Bistro, will open within a month of Bridgewater’s opening, Doug Zucker said. Though the retail development is half a year behind its initial opening date, Ocean Gate Plaza is nearly complete, with one large or two small retailers yet to sign on.
Joining the development early on allowed the Zuckers to design Bridgewater Wines’ retail space to their liking. While the couple awaits its license and permits, they are working on finalizing seating arrangements.
“We designed this entire thing ourselves,” Susan Zucker said. With plans to offer small plates, craft beer, and international wines, there will be no short supply of something new to try.
“That’s what’s fun about wine, there’s always something new,” Doug Zucker said.
Located at 1132 New Point Boulevard in Leland, Bridgewater Wines will be open daily. On Monday through Thursday, the store will open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Keep up with the store’s announcements on their Facebook page.
