Cape Fear Seafood Company brings upscale casual dining to the Leland area

BRUNSWICK COUNTY — A long time Wilmington staple, Cape Fear Seafood Company, is bringing upscale casual dining to the Leland area with the opening of its third location in the Waterford Shopping Center.

Owner Evans Trawick, who helped develop the shopping center, said he felt there was a need for what the local restaurant has to offer in the Leland area.

“We felt that our product mix and kind of style would be really successful over here,” Trawick said. “When you walk in, it’s different than the other stores, but you feel like it’s kind of a nice comfortable place to come sit down and have a good meal, which is really what we strive to do.”

Cape Fear Seafood specializes in American seafood, hand-cut fish, steaks and chicken, along with desserts. Trawick says the same core menu is available at all three locations, but their are some subtle differences.

“Soups may vary by location per day, fresh catch will vary, and we’ll have specials that will be different for each location,” Trawick says. “But, for the most part, you’re gonna get the same experience here you would get at our Monkey Junction location or our Porters Neck location.”

According to Trawick, he has built this restaurant up as a destination for locals. Much of its customer base at the other two locations came from the Leland side of the bridge, and bringing something to Brunswick County has allowed residents of southeastern North Carolina to access his food, no matter where they live.

He wants this to be a destination for Brunswick County residents, who don’t want to drive all the way into Wilmington, Southport, or the beach towns, which according to Trawick, are almost 30 minutes from the new location.

“We wanted to give them an opportunity to not have to cross that bridge when they wanted to go out to dinner on Tuesday night,” he said.

“We felt that our product mix and kind of style would be really successful over here," Trawick said. “So, what we’ve done with this location, is essentially put a location within 15 to 20 minutes from your house no matter where you live in southeastern North Carolina. And that’s kind of what we planned,” he said. “If you enjoy our food, our service, and our atmosphere, then we’ve got a location that’s close to you.”

“Consistency and quality are huge for us, and we strive for that all the time,” Trawick added.
