Anna Burnett Strickland, 73

Anna Burnett Strickland (Andrews Mortuary and Crematory)

WILMINGTON — Anna Burnett Strickland passed away on November 11, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina, following a recent illness. She was 73 years old.

Born on December 1, 1951, in Wilmington, Anna was the beloved daughter of RA Burnett and Eugenia Farmer Burnett. A lifelong resident of Wilmington, she graduated from Hoggard High School with the Class of 1970 and remained deeply connected to her hometown throughout her life.

Anna dedicated many years of service to Siemen electrical parts manufacturing, where her strong work ethic and skilled hands were a valued asset. Her love for working with her hands extended far beyond her career—she had an extraordinary talent for repairing and refurbishing items. Hundreds of treasures passed through her care, often rescued from discarded home furnishings that she lovingly restored. Treasure hunting became one of her favorite hobbies, and she had a particular fondness for scouring Craigslist’s “Free Stuff” section for hidden gems.

Anna’s generosity knew no bounds. She was known for giving more favors than anyone could count—whether it was lending a hand or delivering a small trailer to someone’s driveway, Anna always showed up when needed. Her warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on everyone she met. With a smile always on her face and a heart open to all, she offered comfort and joy to those around her.

She shared a special bond with her daughter, Anna Eugenia “Genie” Strickland, whom she raised with love and devotion alongside her ex-husband Alan Dale Strickland. Anna’s sister Eugenia Farmer “Gener” Stuart and cousin Gayle Puckett were constant companions in her life’s journey. The three shared countless memories filled with laughter and love.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, RA Burnett and Eugenia Farmer Burnett. She is survived by her cherished daughter Genie Strickland; her devoted sister Gener Stuart; her dear cousin Gayle Puckett; numerous second cousins in Carolina Beach; and an extensive network of friends throughout Greater New Hanover County. Her circle of friends and business partners was vast and vibrant—each touched by Anna’s spirit of giving.

Among the many unique ventures was restoring and selling the van previously owned by NASCAR team owner Hoss Ellington and tackling the challenge of restoring a rusted-floor 1974 Super Beetle Volkswagen with stuck brakes. These projects reflected both her entrepreneurial spirit and fearless approach to life.

Anna leaves behind a legacy of compassion, resourcefulness, and unwavering generosity. Her family—especially Genie, Gener, and Gayle—will forever miss the loving spirit that defined her life. If helping others and spreading happiness earns one a place in Heaven, then surely Anna Burnett Strickland is already standing in line at the Pearly Gates.

May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
