HAMPSTEAD — Tyrone “Ty” Berry was born September 2, 1961 to Tommie Berry Sr and Oracene Berry in Cleveland, Ohio.
As a gifted child, Tyrone was selected for a major works program in Pennsylvania that afforded him the opportunity to attend and graduate from Lower Merion High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, Tyrone attended FAMU eventually leaving to pursue a career where he could “put his hands to use”.
Upon enlisting in the Marine Corps as a heavy machinery mechanic, Tyrone became a proud U.S. Marine, a true embodiment of courage, discipline, and unwavering commitment. But beyond the uniform, he was so much more.
A jack of all trades, Tyrone could fix anything and make it run better, from engines to broken spirits. He loved fishing, finding peace and patience by the water. His love of cooking brought both familiar and exotic dishes to the tables of his loved ones that spoke to the well traveled life that he led. Ty was also a skilled diesel mechanic who took pride in every bolt and engine he touched. His journey saw him receive many accolades while working with Triple T, Horizon Tank Lines, Skips tires, and Bry Cam Fleet and Services.
Tyrone was a loving and supportive father, who showed up with strength and heart, always putting his family first. He was an excellent grandfather, full of wisdom, laughter, and unconditional love. As a lit uncle, he brought energy, joy, and realness into every room. As a true and sincere best friend, he offered honesty, loyalty, and the kind of presence that made people feel safe and seen.
If you met Tyrone just once, you knew that he genuinely cared for everyone. His heart was open, and his hands were always ready to help. Whether you needed advice, a laugh, a meal, or a mechanic, he had your back.
Tyrone lived with purpose. He gave without expectation. He loved without condition, and even in transitioning from this world was able to provide the gift of life to others, through organ donation.
Tyrone is preceded in death by his mother, Oracene Berry, Sisters Kaye Elder and Noella Hewston. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughter, Tyrisha Berry, grandson, Tavion White, stepson, Tyree Blakey-Tate, father, Tommie Berry Sr (Judy), Siblings: Tommie Berry Jr, Jane Berry, and Garey Berry Sr, Nieces and nephews: Charles, Lenore, Patrice, Linda, Garey (Ashley), Tommie, and Constance; close friends to the end John John, Bry, Wayne, Della, and Skip, as well as a host of cherished friends, family members, and loved ones.
Today, we carry forward Tyrone’s legacy, one of resilience, love, loyalty, and service.
We love you and we’ll carry you with us, always.
