LELAND — Gladys (McCarthy) Reddy, aged 100, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 22, 2025. She was born on April 19, 1925, in Brooklyn, NY to William and Catherine (McDonald) McCarthy.
Gladys was truly the heartbeat of her family, a radiant presence often found surrounded by loved ones. Whether she was orchestrating magnificent holiday feasts, laden with her famously abundant cooking, or simply sharing a quiet cup of tea and conversation around the kitchen table, her home was always a place of warmth, laughter, and endless welcome.
Gladys’ zest for life shone through her varied interests. Her hands found purpose in the garden, her spirit soared on the dance floor, her mind was captivated by the lives chronicled in biographies, and the enjoyment at the weekly mahjong games she shared with friends in Monroe, CT.
She will be deeply missed by her sister, Maureen Spongross; daughter Susan Reddy and her husband Jerry Berlin; three grandchildren, Chris Berlin and his wife Cassy, Gil Sandvoss and his wife Dawn, Stacey Sandvoss and her husband Robert Rossow; five great-grandchildren, whom she adored, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her cherished daughter, Sharon (Reddy) Sandvoss; her sisters Dolores Hofmann, Marjorie Klevenz, Uriel McCarthy, and her brother William McCarthy.
A private memorial and celebration of life to honor Gladys will be held at a later date.
