WILMINGTON — Nancy H. Meehan, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away on May 3, 2025 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in her hometown of Wilmington, NC, at the age of 83. Born on May 24, 1941, Nancy lived a life filled with love, service, and dedication to her family and community.
After graduating from Horseheads High School in Horseheads, NY, she embarked on a varied career devoted to service. She touched countless lives as a bus driver for special needs children at Horseheads High School, provided compassionate care to the elderly at Bethany Retirement Home, contributed her skills at a dental office, and greeted many with a warm smile as a cashier at Jubilee Foods.
Her faith was a part of her life, as well. Nancy was a member of Saint Mary Our Mother Catholic Church in Horseheads, NY, and later was involved with McClure Presbyterian Church in Castle Hayne. Her spiritual journey was marked by kindness and a deep sense of community.
Nancy’s personal interests brought joy to those around her. She adored playing Bunco with friends and family, creating cherished memories that will live on in their hearts. She also found joy tending to the vegetable garden she had at one time with love and care.
Family was the cornerstone of Nancy’s life. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Margaret (née Fowler) Carver; her beloved husband of 62 years, Cyril “Bud” Thomas Meehan, Jr.; her son, Brian Meehan; great-granddaughter Kyleigh Meehan; brother Doug Carver; and sisters-in-law Elfrida Carver and Diana Meehan.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her cherished daughter, Rita Meehan; her brothers Steve Carver (Janice), Michael Carver, and David Carver; her sister Janice Jensen (Fred); grandchildren Brett Meehan (Nicholas) and Todd Meehan (Colleen); sister-in-law Jessica Carver; brother-in-law James P. Meehan; and a host of extended family and dear friends who will miss her greatly.
A Memorial Service to honor and remember Nancy will be held at McClure Presbyterian Church in Castle Hayne on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 11:00am. Burial is to follow at a later date in Horseheads, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations in Nancy’s honor be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare of Wilmington. These contributions will support their mission to provide palliative and end-of-life care to patients and guidance to their families, as they did for Nancy and her family.
Nancy’s life was a testament to love, selflessness, and grace. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
