WILMINGTON — Charles Thomas “Tom” Pappendick passed away on April 29, 2025, in Wilmington, NC.
Born to George D. and Mary M. Pappendick, Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Carolyn Brown Pappendick; his daughters Mary Lee Tyndall, Ara Miralles, and Lori Kegel; his grandchildren Leanna and Rik Tyndall; Tomas, Isabel, and Elena Miralles; Caroline and Michael Kegel; and great-grandchild Ryan Tyndall. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, George F. Pappendick.
Tom’s educational journey began at Roanoke Rapids High School and continued through Wake Forest, Louisburg College, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His professional life included serving as a partner in the West Coast Lumber Company and as a member of the Pender County Board of Education.
A man of deep faith and service, Tom was active in both Saint Andrews Covenant Presbyterian Church and Burgaw Presbyterian Church. He taught Sunday School and held leadership roles within the church community. His commitment to service extended beyond the church through his involvement with organizations such as Hospice, Habitat for Humanity, Camp Kirkwood, and as President of Lower Cape Fear Lifecare.
Tom proudly served in the Army Reserves and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. He enjoyed bird hunting, swimming, golfing, singing with the Porters Neck Village Choir, and spending time at the Outer Banks. A lover of camellias and a member of the North Carolina Continuing Care Residents Association, Tom lived a life full of joy, generosity, and community spirit.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date to honor his life.
