WILMINGTON — Hayward Phillip Stringfield, a man of many talents and boundless generosity, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 79. He was born on December 21, 1945, in Rocky Point, North Carolina.

Hayward’s journey through life was marked by diverse accomplishments and a deep commitment to his work and community. An accomplished tailor and skilled airplane mechanic, he honed his craft with dedication and precision. His career further expanded as he contributed his expertise at General Electric and later as a plumbing contractor for the build of ILM Wilmington Airport. A visionary entrepreneur, he owned and operated Cape Fear Plumbing and Higher Power Services, leaving a lasting impact on those he served.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Hayward was a man of profound interests and passions. As a Master Herbalist, he shared his knowledge with others, enriching lives with natural remedies. He held a special place in his heart for dogs, nurturing many Rottweilers and Doberman Pinschers with love and care. Music was an integral part of his life, and he found great joy in Jazz, R & B, and Motown classics. Hayward was also an avid reader, particularly of self-improvement books, and found solace in watching Westerns.

He generously gave of his time, money, and himself to those around him, touching countless lives with his kindness and warmth. As a respected figure in his field, Hayward sat on the board for the Plumbing program at Cape Fear Community College, contributing to the education and development of future professionals.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, John Aaron and Oretha (née Dargin) Stringfield Jr., his cherished son, Russell Gerard “Rod” Faison, and his dear sister, Judy Jordan.

Hayward’s legacy is carried forward by his devoted wife, Patricia Miller, and his loving children: Demetrice Williams (and significant other, Phoebe Ward), Hayward Stringfield Jr. (Beth), Stacie Stringfield-Williams, Phillip Jarman, and Phillis Ellerby Williams (Omega) and his step-son, Dee Miller (Lisa). He leaves behind a large and loving family, including 17 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and siblings Gloria Rolle, Annette Davis, Michael and John Stringfield, and a host of loving family members, friends and colleagues.

A Celebration of Life to honor Hayward will be planned for May 2025, where family and friends will gather to remember and celebrate the remarkable life he lived.

In this time of mourning, we reflect on the indelible mark Hayward left on the world and carry his memory in our hearts, cherishing the love and wisdom he bestowed upon us all.
