WILMINGTON — Bernice White Baxley, 94, of Wilmington, NC passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.
She was born in Marion, SC to the late Hallie Rowell White and Manley Burney White. She was also preceded in death by her husband JW Baxley, daughter Carroll Baxley, son in law Gary Saburn, brother William David White, sisters Kate Platt, Margaret Jordan, Eliza Scurry and Shirley Gardner.
Bernice was a loving mother, Nanny and friend. During her lifetime she worked as a nurse, retiring as plant nurse with DuPont Leland. She was blessed to be able to use her nursing skills on numerous mission trips to the Ukraine and Honduras. She enjoyed spending time with her family, bird watching, sewing, gardening and traveling in earlier years. Bernice was a member of Pine Valley Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter Marjorie Baxley Saburn, son John Baxley (Juli), grandchildren Amber Brown (Warren), Kyle Saburn (Paige), Wesley Baxley (Ashley), and Jenny Baxley; great grandchildren Garrett Brown (Katelin), Hannah Escoto (Cesar), Caroline Saburn, Eli, Eden and Ethan Baxley; great great grandchildren Sawyer and Beau Brown, Josiah Escoto, and Leah Pacheco; extended family Jim, Pam and Alec Wenning, Jared and Tyler Simmons.
