LELAND — Rory Stephen “Steve” Shaw, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, in Leland, North Carolina. Born on April 18, 1959, in Columbus, Ohio, Steve lived a life full of love, dedication, and craftsmanship, reaching the age of 65.
Steve was a talented mechanist who dedicated many years of his career to GE, where he worked on aircraft, contributing to advancements in aviation technology. His skill and precision were admired by colleagues and friends alike.
Outside of his professional life, Steve was a passionate woodworker, known for crafting beautiful toy chests and rocking horses that brought joy to many children. He cherished spending time with his family, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Steve was preceded in death by his loving parents, Gerald Shaw and Hattie Hoop Shaw. He is survived by his devoted wife, Karen Shaw; his daughter, Stacy Gainey; his son, Stephen Daniel Shaw; and his sister, Sandra Rodriguez. Steve also leaves behind six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and creativity.
At this time, no services are planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Hospice, honoring Steve’s memory and the compassionate care they provide.
Steve’s warmth, talent, and dedication to his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
